Place to See Near Gaya

The ancient city of Gaya is the epicenter of Hindu and Buddhist culture. The place is one of the famous pilgrim destinations of the Vaishnavites in particular and Hindus in general. There are several places in and around Gaya which are worth visiting.

Parasnath hill
Parasnath hill is a popular Jain pilgrim spot located in Gaya. Jain religious scriptures say that out of 24 Jain Tirthankars, 22 obtained salvation here. A large number of Jain devotees come to this place.

Pawapuri
90 kilometers away from Gaya is another famous place of the Jain followers. This place is of immense significance as the great Mahavir is said to have breathed his last here. Footprints of Mahavir are there at the centre while those of his two disciples are on the left and right. The Jalmandir or Temple on water on the Kamal Sarovar or Lotus lake is quite sanctimonious. The Jains believe that if one visits the place even for once, one gets rid of all sins.
